Ambrose Spike was a male hedgehog Cellarkeeper of Redwall Abbey. He was the second cousin twice-removed of Rosey Spike. In addition to brewing various ales and beverages, Ambrose was known for performing magic and legerdemain. He wasn't very good at cooking.
While warning the Vole family about Cluny the Scourge, Ambrose was stabbed by some of Cluny's rats, but he survived and was rescued by Foremole and his crew. Along with Foremole, Matthias, Constance, and Winifred, he was appointed as a Redwall Abbey commander by Abbot Mortimer during the Late Rose Summer Wars.
Later, his title was High Keeper of the Cellar Keys. He helped to defend Redwall against General Ironbeak and his army.
During the Winter of the Deepest Snow, Ambrose brewed a pink wine he designated as the "Cup of Cheer." Within the firkin, Fermald the Ancient hid one of the Tears of all Oceans.
