Candied chestnuts are snacks made from chestnuts that have been glazed with dark maple sugar or honey. They're enjoyed by all Redwallers, especially the Dibbuns. They are usually given to sick young ones in the Infirmary, or Dibbuns that are good and obedient.
Many birds also love candied chestnuts, including Chibb (who was quite partial to them and would provide spying services to creatures who paid him with very large amounts of candied chestnuts), Wudbeak, Warbeak, King Bull Sparra (who promised Matthias that he would release him for many bags of candied chestnuts), and Pandion Piketalon.

"I can remember when I was a kid, and me and my cousin one evening, at the back of a cupboard, we found a tin of candied chestnuts. And we didn't know what they were! And this tin had a key on the side that you would push through and open. And we opened it, and there were these little brown lots, and they'd been packed in heavy cinnamon sugar and sealed and left there until it went right into the nut. And this was my first taste of candied chestnuts. What a wonderful taste!"
