Mice have been inhabitants of Redwall and Mossflower since the beginning. Mice have always been "good" creatures, (with the exception of Nimbalo's father) and while the majority are peaceful, there are more than a few mouse warriors--most notably, Martin the Warrior. Most of Redwall's Abbots and Abbesses have been mice, as was its founder.

Mice were very often the main characters of the books early in the series.
