Hangpaw was a rat in Groffgut's gang. He was named for his withered limb. Hangpaw was the first member of the gang to be slain; as he and the other seven gangmembers were running north through the ditch outside Redwall, Tiria Wildlough slung a stone from her sling, Wuppit, from a great distance and struck him on the back of the head, dropping him instantly.
