Jakestown: My Liverpool is the fifth known published work of Brian Jacques. It was published by Raven Books and printed by Anvil Press in December 1979. The cover illustrations were drawn by Brian Jacques' son David, who was age 15 at the time.

The book is in paperback form, and features illustrations by Bill Tidy, and one from Bernard Atherton.

It is currently out of print.

Summary[]

Jakestown: My Liverpool is not a novel, but self-described as "a definitive collection of the Liverpool monologues, songs, verses, jokes, and stories of Brian Jacques". It includes selections from Yennoworrameanlike, Get Yer Wack, and The Mersey Bible, as well as new material.

Back Cover Text[]

The text on the back cover is a quote from Reg Brookes, a producer at BBC Merseyside. The full version of this quote is actually on the back of Scouse with the Lid Off:

"Brian Jacques is imaginative, an observer of our foibles and frailties, and a vernacular genius. He's earthy - but so was Chaucer. And if earthy means, as it ought to mean, a realisation of the source of nourishment, then Brian Jacques draws deep from his roots to remind us that the essential Liverpudlian - male and female - is matey, irreverent, has a distinctive way with words, and is that curious mixture of the tender sentimentalist and the hard-case."
