The Lost Legends of Redwall is an official Redwall video game series that has been released on Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, and mobile app marketplaces. The series is currently being developed by Soma Games, Clopas LLC, Kaio Interactive, Redwall Abbey Company Ltd, Penguin Random House UK, Christopher and Allan Miller, and Lance Priebe. Jared Shear, Nat Iwata, Jeremy Adams, Erin Kays, Erin Marantette, and Max Wilson have contributed artwork and designs. The writing team has included Ren Alex-Rose, Heather Rose Walters, and Brittney Morris.

Brian Jacques approved of the adaptation of Redwall into a video game prior to his death in 2011, and was fully on-board with the development.

As details surrounding this project are continually developing, be sure to check the news page for regular updates and reports.

Redwall Game Development History[]

In 2011, contact was first made with Brian Jacques for a "small mobile game" that would accompany another project. During Summer 2012, Christopher Miller and Alan Miller announced the Redwall: The Adventure Game project, with an intended release for autumn of the year. However, financial concerns called for the recruitment of a new partner.

In April 2013, Soma Games became involved with the project, and launched a Kickstarter in an effort to promote the game development efforts, now titled "Redwall: The Warrior Reborn", and finance a Minecraft map of Redwall Abbey. After achieving the fundraising goal, the Minecraft map, Redwall AbbeyCraft: The Corsair's Last Treasure, was released in August 2013.

In September 2014, Soma requested additional financial support. They announced a partnership with the Maclellan Foundation in February 2015.

In July 2017, it was revealed that the games would consist of an "episodic mini-series" that would "tell the story of three reluctant heroes who each find themselves inside Redwall Abbey for deeply personal reasons when it is besieged by Cluny the Scourge. Thrust into a suddenly dramatic situation the three strangers become fast friends and wind up in a critical, but as-yet unsung role in the events that bring the sword of Martin the Warrior to Matthias and the end to that villain Cluny the Scourge."

At the time, three episodes were announced, "The Scout," which would feature a mouse character; and "The Miner" and "The Archer", which would feature a mole and a squirrel. In December 2017, a fourth episode, "The Pirate", was announced, which was to involve all three previous characters uniting, as well as feature Cluny the Scourge. That month, the games were re-branded as "An Epic Tale of Redwall".

On March 19, 2018, the games were once again re-branded as The Lost Legends of Redwall.

In September 2018, the first episode, "The Scout", was released. In November 2018, an unrelated Redwall video game, Escape the Gloomer, a Soma Games-Clopas LLC collaboration, was released.

After the release of The Scout, the decision was made to extend the game's narrative and release it as three games or "acts" instead of the previously announced plan to develop three different games that focused on individual characters. In 2021, The Scout Act II and The Scout Act III were released, as well as The Lost Legends of Redwall mobile app and Feasts & Friends. The Miner, The Archer, and The Pirate were shelved.

In 2023, Soma Games partnered with Forthright Entertainment to publish The Scout Anthology, a combination of all three Scout acts streamlined into one game. The Scout Act I, The Scout Act II, and The Scout Act III were removed from Steam as a result.

In February 2024, The Scout Anthology was released, along with a PC version of Feasts & Friends.

The Lost Legends of Redwall Games[]

The Scout Act I: Lilygrove[]

The Scout Act I

Described as a "stealth-adventure game", The Scout is the story of a young mouse warrior-in-training who is forced to flee to Redwall Abbey when the Mossflower Woods village of Lilygrove is attacked by Scumsnout the Wearet and his crew of sea rats. Act I consists of five levels.

"The events of The Scout play out along the ancient, but now altered, course of the mighty River Moss. What was once a wide river is now the sunken bed of a seasonal creek that that runs east-west between Redwall Abbey and the Great South Stream that feeds the swamps south and east of Salamandastron. The player must find a way through the confusing snow-covered channel punctuated by occasional hedgerows, ancient stone walls, scattered shacks, and the few-and-far-between hearths of friendly woodlanders."

The game was officially released on September 14, 2018.

Escape the Gloomer[]

Escape the Gloomer

Described as a "conversational adventure game," Escape the Gloomer features the tale of a young otter member of Skipper Warthorn's crew, Gillig, who pursues Verdauga Greeneyes' lost Scroll of Inheritance, the recovery of which could prevent the Great Mossflower War by revealing his heir.

The story plays out parallel to the events of Mossflower. It is entirely text-based.
