Melanius was a female badger, the daughter of Russano the Wise and Lady Rosalaun. She was older than her brother Snowstripe by three seasons. Melanius and the audience of other residents of Salamandastron were told the story of the history of Salamandastron by her father Russano.
It is assumed either she and/or her brother ruled Salamandastron in later years.
