Plumpen was the leader of a tribe of 20 dormice who were all family members. They were captured by Cluny the Scourge while he was attacking Redwall Abbey. Plumpen was forced to make a decision: either open one of the Abbey wall gates or Cluny would kill his family. He chose the former, however once he let Cluny's horde inside he was knocked senseless by Fangburn.
He later lived at the liberated Redwall Abbey.
Trivia[]
- In Vol. 4 of Redwall.org's "Ask Brian" series, Brian Jacques said that the inspiration for the character came from 'Plumpen' being the Dutch word for dormouse. This may not actually be the correct Dutch term, as they are generally called either 'relmuis' or 'zevenslaper' in Dutch.
