The '''''Redwall'' animated television series''', also known as '''Brian Jacques' Redwall''', was a three season adaptation of ''[[Redwall]]'', ''[[Mattimeo (book)|Mattimeo]]'', and ''[[Martin the Warrior (book)|Martin the Warrior]]'' that was originally broadcast from [[1999]] until [[2002]].

Produced by Nelvana, a Canadian animation studio, the series airs re-runs on some PBS channels in the U.S., and occasionally airs on Teletoon in Canada. Each episode is around 22 minutes in length, or 30 minutes with commercials.

[[Brian Jacques]] introduced each PBS episode, which also closed with an [[User_blog:LordTBT/News:_Presenting_Redwall_TV_Featurettes|educational featurette]] that offered a lesson on an aspect of the show. 
The featurettes would sometimes include 7th and 8th grade students in the Los Angeles area, and were never included in DVD or home video releases.

The first Redwall TV series episode aired September 12, 1999; the final episode was aired February 19, [[2001]]. The TV series aired the first episode in the U.S. on PBS on April 1, 2001. The series finale aired in the U.S. on July 28, [[2002]].

A [[User_blog:LordTBT/Mossflower_Was_Planned_as_Season_Four_of_the_Redwall_TV_Series|fourth season was originally planned]], however the show was canceled for a [[Redwall Film Adaptations|film adaptation that didn't happen]].

==Redwall TV Series Production & History==
Nelvana co-founder Toper Taylor was a fan of the ''Redwall'' series and successfully negotiated for the rights. The Redwall TV Series was officially greenlit by Nelvana in October [[1998]]. At the time, [[User_blog:LordTBT/Redwall_TV_Beginnings_with_Nelvana_Founder_Michael_Hirsh|Nelvana co-CEO Michael Hirsh]] stated "<nowiki>[Redwall]</nowiki> has all the elements of a medieval fairy tale."

Brian Jacques consulted on story and attended production meetings in Toronto and Los Angeles. Production was led by creator, developer, and writer [[Steve Roberts]].

Redwall was originally created by Cambridge Animation Systems' Animo software, which became property of Toon Boom Animation Inc. in [[2009]].

The production company for the ''Redwall'' TV series was Molitor Productions Ltd.

Originally, PBS declined to distribute the series over concerns of violence for younger audiences, however the target demographic was school-aged kids. Nelvana worked with American Public Television to distribute ''Redwall'' as a free program offer as part of the PBS Bookworm Bunch and achieved an approximate 70% carriage rate on PBS stations across the U.S.
