Tan Loc was a male vole who was enslaved on the Blacksail after Hookfin murdered his family. He rescued Joseph the Bellmaker after the mouse had been thrown to the sea by Gabool the Wild. Together, they founded the Terramort Resistance Against Gabool. During the final battle on Terramort Isle, he waited just outside the fortress and clashed with Hookfin. While the outcome isn't explicitly stated, it was presumed that Tan Loc won the battle against his mortal enemy and later went on to live at Redwall Abbey. Tan Loc rarely spoke much and when he did speak it was usually a few short words.
