Official Synopsis

Redwall Abbey awakes to find their young ones are gone, and as they piece the previous night together realize that Mattimeo was right and that Vitch was the slaver's spy. Desperate that he ignored his son's warnings, Matthias vows to pursue Slagar the Fox accompanied by Basil Stag Hare and others. He is unaware that Orlando the badger is already in far away pursuit. Slagar takes his slaves on circuitous routes, laying false trails to confuse the pursuers. The frightened slaves look to Mattimeo for leadership but he is not ready and responds badly. As his father sets off in entirely the wrong direction Mattimeo learns the true story of Chickenhound-- and that he himself is hostage to Chickenhound's revenge on Matthias who will never see his son again.

Differences from Mattimeo

• In the book, the slaves help Mattimeo beat up Vitch. Whereas in the series, it's only Mattimeo that gets into a fight with Vitch.
• When Slagar tells Mattimeo his story in the episode, Threeclaws is present. In the book, only Mattimeo is there.
• In the book, Slagar doesn't tell Mattimeo that he is Chickenhound, instead Mattimeo tells Sam Squirrel the information that Slagar gave to him and it is Sam Squirrel that reveals Slagar to be Chickenhound.
• In the book, Slagar says that it was Asmodeus who ruined his face. In the series, he makes no reference to Asmodeus.
• In the book, Rollo doesn't immediately figure out that his mother is dead until (presumably) someone tells him, whereas in the series, he knows his mother is dead early on.
• In the book, Winifred figures out that the Redwallers were drugged, while in the series, Basil figures it out.
• In the episode, Cornflower is part of the original search party, as are several other unamed creatures. They aren't in the book.
