A few headcanons I have, related specifically to otters.
1. Falloon was Runa Wildlough's brother/other close relative.
- There's a bit of discrepancy in High Rhulain over how Sister Geminya got her paws on the Lance of Corriam. When first mentioned, it is stated to have been a gift from Skipper Falloon, whereas the account in Tales of Ancient Life indicates that Geminya was given the lance by Runa. The easiest way to reconcile this, in my mind, is if Alem Mossguard confiscated the lance while Corriam was staying at Holt Mossguard. Alem didn't like or trust Corriam, so it makes sense he wouldn't be inclined to let him keep ahold of a weapon. Corriam, in no real condition to object, may have surrendered the broken weapon in an attempt to appease his rather hostile, unwilling host.
- If this was the case, it of course didn't pan out, and Corriam ended up leaving the holt with Runa. I don't see Alem returning the lance to Corriam after coming between him and his daughter, and so Corriam was presumably forced to leave the lance behind. However, after Alem either died or retired (assuming Skippers do retire), his son/nephew Falloon takes over. Not wanting there to remain a rift between Runa and her family by birth, and perhaps not sharing Alem's hostility, he tracks down the Wildloughs and returns Corriam's lance in a gesture of peace. Corriam, after repairing it, leaves it to Runa upon dying, and Runa in turn gives it to Geminya. Thus, indirectly, Falloon is responsible for Geminya receiving the lance.
2. Tiria Wildlough and Leatho Shellhound got married after High Rhulain
- Okay, this one is probably just wishful thinking on my part, but I thought the two of them were really cute in the few scenes they had together. In the real world river otters and sea otters can't have offspring, but in a world where Wearets exist and badgers can forge swords I feel like you can sidestep something like that. I also think it’d be cute if, during the whole Green Isle-Redwall exchange cruise foreshadowed in the epilogue, Leatho got Banjon’s okay to propose to Tiria.
3. The Rogue Crew's name doesn't just sound cool.
- I think the Rogue Crew's name could be based on them being, in fact, a rogue ottercrew-by which I mean they don't recognize the sovereignty of the monarch of Green Isle. Given the distance between Green Isle and Mossflower country, this may not be the biggest deal. Still, it could be seen as pretty significant when clans from everywhere between Riftgard and Southsward acknowledge the High Queen Rhulain as their ruler. It would also be a bit awkward for the Long Patrol to ally with a group of otters in open defiance of an older, established ally group of otters, unless they're trying to help mend the rift at some point.
- I may or may not also have toyed with the idea of a story where the Rogue Crew and the Green Isle otters end up having to work together against some common threat that brings up the issue and eventually leads to reconciliation...possibly through descendants of Leatho Shellhound and Skor Axehound falling in love and getting married.
