Redwall Wiki Turns 16
It's that time of year again - the Redwall Wiki's birthday! And as of 2021, we're 16 years old - a website old enough to drive (maybe one of those wheeled ships?).
I think it's fair to say 2021 has been the most pivotal year for Redwall in quite some time. Let's review:
It started out with the super, massive, earth-shattering announcement that Netflix had acquired the rights to the Redwall saga.
In the coming years, we can expect a Redwall movie and at least one series from the streamer, but hopefully there will be many. As we've seen several people wonder when we can expect to see this come into fruition, we wanted to clarify: not any time soon. That's not how TV and film development and production works. A script has to be completed and approved, and animators, visual effects artists, directors, voice actors, and other crew members have to be hired. Then they have to get the work done, which all takes time. This will take years - and that's just the movie.
Our best guess is we might see something around 2024 - 2025 at the earliest. However, that does not mean the excitement for these projects should wane. We can't wait to see what Netflix does with the property. The whole world is going to know the names of Martin the Warrior and Matthias!
Worth noting, as far as we can tell, this year the Redwall Wiki was the only website or media outlet to hear from screenwriter Patrick McHale on the status of the script (and we certainly look forward to hearing more from Mr. McHale in the future).
The Lost Legends of Redwall: The Scout Act II was released by Soma Games in the spring, and if you haven't played it yet, you really should, as The Lost Legends of Redwall: The Scout Act III is due to be released in the near future.
Then there was the news of "interest" in adapting Brian Jacques' non-Redwall works to other mediums - something else we are very much anticipating.
And, among other things, we showed you what the entire Russian Redwall collection looks like. And don't worry, we're always planning on more big reveals.
So all-in-all, quite the eventful year for Redwall thus far. We can only hope that the upcoming adaptations means new book releases from the publisher.
Thanks, as always, for your continued support.
