Wakka, or Wakk, was a squirrel who was chieftain of the Gawtrybe. Wakka wasn't as playful as the other squirrels of his tribe. When Martin, Rose, Grumm, and Pallum tried to cross Boldred's mountain, he demanded Martin's sword. Since Martin would not give it to him, Wakka challenged Martin to unarmed combat. In the ensuing fight, Martin managed to get Wakka into a hold and put his footpaw on Wakka's head. Although Martin could have killed Wakka, Rose persuaded him not to.
Wakka is conspicuously absent from the scene the next day. Although the Gawtrybe only states that he was defeated, it is possible that he was killed. He did not join the Gawtrybe's attack on Fort Marshank.
Nelvana Redwall TV Series[]
In the Nelvana Redwall TV Series, Wakka resorted to a number of tricks in an attempt to beat Martin. He tried to jump on him when Martin had his back turned, and also threw sand in his eyes. Rose, tempted to interfere, drew her dagger but was held back by Grumm.
When Martin pinned Wakka down and placed his foot on his chest, Martin asked him if he had enough; to which Wakka said he did three times, each louder than the last. Although he wasn't seen when the Gawtrybe confronted the travelers at the mountain, he later took part at the Battle of Marshank.
