Winifred was a female otter leader known for her blue eyes. She was an excellent fisher and helped to defend Redwall Abbey against Cluny the Scourge and his horde during the Late Rose Summer Wars. Abbot Mortimer appointed her as an Abbey commander, along with Foremole, Matthias, Constance, and Ambrose Spike.
Winifred also fought against the army of General Ironbeak, whose rooks usually called her a "streamdog," but seemed to be quite afraid of her.

- Winifred has the distinction of being the very first otter to appear in the Redwall series.
- In her first appearance in the Nelvana Redwall TV Series, Winifred's sclera was the same color as her irises, possibly due to an animation error.
